Save the last Boulevard of Mangalore:
Short description: Mangalore is a coastal city in Karnataka state, India. This story is about an innovative community campaign `Vraksha Bandhan’ to save 45 trees, which were planned to be cut for road widening by the Municipal authorities on a 2 km stretch of road in Kankanady-Valencia-Jeppu area. This campaign started in 2009 & is still continuing.

                        Duration: 3 years
Actual stage: The fight is in the court now. The court has granted orders not to cut the trees until the case is settled
Target population: Local community, students in the educational institutions in the area and shopkeepers

Manoj's role in the project: I have been actively involved in the campaign mobilizing, motivating, educating, creating awareness, networking with organizations in this project. I’m one of the appellant in the court case.
Impact of his experience in the Weitz Center on the project's success: I learnt how to promote the urban nature and biodiversity values in Mangalore city. I was not aware of `Justifying our strategy'. The Rehovot approach taught me how to inculcate positioning the project to potential stakeholders.
