Featured Project: Med Test II - Israel
The MED TEST II – Israel project, part of the SwitchMed program launched in 2009, builds on the results of the MED TEST I pilot initiative and in particular, on the UNIDO TEST methodology. The SWITCH-Med initiative is a regional multi-component programme funded by the EU, and implemented through collaborative efforts by the EU, UNIDO, and UNEP. Its overall objective is to facilitate the shift toward Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in the Southern Mediterranean region by demonstrating successful examples of how this can be done.
Med Test II - Israel, which is run and coordinated by the Weitz Center, was launched at the beginning of the year 2015 and focuses on resource efficiency and cleaner production (RECP). As part of the project launch, the Weitz Center initiated a consortium of advisors which includes: Green Target, Sher Consulting and Training, Sustainability Foresight and Herzog, Fox & Neeman (HFN) law firm. In early 2015, a call of interest was published among the local industrial sector, inviting the Israeli industries to apply to become demonstration sites for resource efficiency and cleaner production (RECP).

After a competitive selection process, 7 out of 29 companies were selected to take part in the project. The 7 selected companies span across the following sectors: food & beverage, plastics, metals, and chemicals. The selected companies have undergone a training program and are accompanied by one of the consultancy team members throughout all of the methodology’s implementation process.
Additionally, the Weitz Center is working on capacity-building training programs based on this methodology in order to share knowledge and experience on a national level across all of Israel.
The 7 piloting companies include the following:
